Cincinnati Waterworks attributes strong ROI

Utilities company replaces manual processes with wireless efficiency – and saves big
Tampa, FL:Since the installation and adoption of Actsoft’s Comet Mobile Worker,
Greater Cincinnati Water Works will realize a hard dollar annual return on investment
of approximately $124K, mostly attributed to a reduction in personnel and paper.
By using simple GPS enabled
cell phones as a conduit, they are now able to optimize dispatch and wirelessly
deploy work orders. They simply replaced paper-based processes with wireless efficiency.
Two short years ago, the company managed their mobile workforce using manual processes.
Everything was recorded by hand which required several employees to enter the handwritten
data into their existing backend work order system. Any paper work orders that were
requested after the employees left for the field were dispatched with a phone call
and required the employee to write down any pertinent information. Follow up was
done manually by calling each employee to determine if the job was completed. Field
workers reported their own time with no verification of employee location or work
completion.
The ability to work more efficiently has paid off. In 2009, the company handled
22 thousand more work orders than they did in 2003, with 4 less people. Soft dollar
impact is yet to be determined, but projected to be substantial. In fuel reduction
alone they have saved thousands.
Dave Bennett of GCWW states,
“The savings tell the story. Any time we can run a more cost effective and efficient
operation, we are genuinely pleased. By reducing personnel and increasing our output,
over time we will easily realize thousands in additional savings. Actsoft was a
very sound decision.”
