Evans-Brant Central School District
Using Comet Tracker to Improve Safety of the Students
Company Profile
Evans-Brant Central School District has a legacy of operations dating back more
than 50 years. The School District is governed by the Board of Education, which
is responsible for the general management and control of the District’s financial
and educational affairs. They currently have 7 schools in their district and 80
buses. Approximately 100 employees are responsible for transporting more than 3000
students.

Challenges
The most common request in the past came from parents inquiring about the location
of their child while in transit. Understandably, this became a focus of the School
Board. Prior to the implementation of Comet Tracker in Evans-Brant School District
there was no way to tell the exact location of each school bus.
Benefits
Transportation Supervisor Mike Dellasandro was effusive when he outlined the benefits
of having Comet Tracker used on their buses. The School District has drastically
reduced the number of complaints from parents and can quickly accommodate any inquiries
received. His staff is able to quickly and reliably provide the location of any
bus by simply opening Comet Tracker.
Additionally, with Comet Tracker, the School District can easily correct the driver’s
route for unplanned pick-ups, saving on time and fuel. The time spent processing
each pick-up/drop off can be critical when determining and implementing a small
school budget. Using Comet Tracker has been an invaluable experience for Mike and
the Evans-Brant Central School District.
“It’s priceless...it works well. We currently have 15 out of 80 buses being tracked
and looking forward to having all of them being tracked.”
— Mike Dellasandro, Transportation Supervisor
San Lorenzo Unified School District — Comet Tracker
Helps To Protect Students Safety
Company Profile
Established in 1850, San Lorenzo Unified School District has the distinction of
being the oldest school district in the State of California. It has created several
small high schools within its boundaries to better serve its student population.
San Lorenzo Unified School District serves a total student population of 11,460
of which almost 3000 are San Leandro residents.

Challenges
The school district needed to track buses for safety reasons as well as to dispel
complaints that their buses did not show up, or that one of their buses caused property
damage. They soon realized they needed an application that could do more than just
track the buses. They were in need of a solution that could integrate or interface
with their dispatch application, TransTraks. Specifically, a GPS solution that uses
Microsoft Mappoint to track their buses that would allow them to route drivers effectively.
Benefits
The school district liked Comet Tracker because of its flexibility and ability to
use different mapping applications - including Mappoint. They were also interested
in using Comet Tracker with RFID scanning devices to track students via school ID
cards. San Lorenzo Unified School District uses phones that are mounted in cradles
on their school buses. They also use various Comet Tracker reports and landmark
features to further solidify accountability. They like the fact that they can automatically
email the reports at the end of the day.
According to Jerry Ranks, transportation supervisor, Comet Tracker is definitely
helping with their vehicle insurance premium and property damage complaints.
“[Comet Tracker] is insurance for our reputation and safety.”
